Why I built Athar
A journey of the heart
I built Athar because I wanted people making their way to Mecca and Medina to really feel where they are. Not just to see the buildings, but to know what happened there, to hear the story of the site they're standing in, and to have the right du'a ready at the right place.
Travelling with a tour group led by a good scholar can completely change the experience. Someone who can point at a hill and bring the Seerah to life, or tell you what happened at a well you would have walked right past. Not everyone is able to join a group like that though, for all kinds of reasons, and I wanted to put something in people's pockets that tries to capture a little bit of that feeling. History, context, du'as, the companions tied to each place, all available when you need it, even offline.
More than anything, I hope Athar helps people slow down during their ziyarah. Read a reflection prompt, write something in the journal, spend an extra minute at a site knowing what actually happened there. It's less about geography and more about presence. I want someone standing at Masjid al-Quba to know what the Prophet ﷺ said when he laid its first stone, and someone at the foot of Jabal Uhud to understand what it cost.
This is a labor of love, built for the ummah. If you decide to join the beta, thank you. Every bit of feedback you send shapes where this goes next. May Allah accept it from all of us.
Jazakum Allahu khayran The Athar Team
