Athar ("the app") is an interactive guide to the Islamic holy sites of Mecca and Medina. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. We collect the minimum needed to make the app work, and we do not sell data or show ads.
Information you provide
- Account: if you create an account, we store your email address and a securely hashed password.
- Your content: bookmarks, places you mark as visited, journal reflections, and any feedback you submit about a site are stored with your account so they sync across your devices.
Information that stays on your device
- Photos: photos you take or attach to your journal are stored only on your device. They are never uploaded to our servers.
- Location: with your permission, the app uses your location to show nearby sites, directions, and prayer times. Location is processed on your device and is not sent to or stored on our servers.
Service providers
- Supabase hosts our database and authentication. Your account data and synced content are stored there.
- Mapbox renders the maps. When map tiles load, Mapbox receives standard network information such as your IP address. We have disabled Mapbox's usage telemetry in the app.
What we don't do
- No advertising, no ad tracking, no sale of personal data.
- No third-party analytics SDKs.
- No collection of contacts, browsing history, or background location.
Deleting your account
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from
inside the app: Profile → Delete Account. Deletion is immediate
and removes your account, bookmarks, visited places, journal reflections, and
feedback from our servers.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children beyond what is described above.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date.
